South American members of the UNA, as well as Mexico and Canada are pressuring the United States to militarize the planned mission to Europa, staking a claim for the UNA as Europa’s land mass would be sufficient to support all citizens of the UNA, but not large enough to support all of human life, as it is ¼ the size of earth, and its oceans and uninhabitable areas are much more vast than Earth’s
Canada and Mexico agree to provide large amounts of financial assistance if the USA will agree to a military offensive for the eventual conquest of Europa.
Just one year since the Mars Treaty went into effect, the UNA, UAC and RCA have both a civilian and military presence in Mars orbit. The rest of the human race left on Earth has spiraled into a state of chaos. Humanity no longer has the comfort of government, the alliance of nations or even basic systems in place to deliver food, water, electricity or internet services. Only one thing remains on Earth, the threat of mutually assured destruction as tribal factions begin to arise around the world, notably the newly formed Republic of America and The English Irish Alliance.
While certain factions began to establish systems to deliver power, communications and basic food and water needs, most of the world declined into a state of post apocalyptic survival. In Fort Worth, Texas 10,000 members declare the city of Fort Worth the new “Free Republic of Texas” becoming the first faction since the Mars treaty to effectively establish a system of government to deliver power, water, internet service, communications and even police patrols to keep peace within the city limits. The Free Republic of Texas becomes the new wild west as people all across the globe begin to migrate West.
The Mars Armistice
Explosions erupt on the surface of Mars as UAC troops fire upon Farcell mission critical RCA infrastructure in an attempt to cripple the RCA’s attempts to leave Mars. A bloody 3 day battle ensues, costing the RCA dearly. Striking with the element of surprise, the UAC takes the lives of 5,600 RCA troops and destroys over 10 Russian spacecraft. They also destroy enough critical RCA infrastructure to set them back at least 6 months in the quest for Europan colonization.
The UNA immediately begins preparing for launch of the Farcell mission. On the third morning of the UAC/RCA conflict the UNA tasks the Europa Siren, a massive UNA Carrier Class Spacecraft housing a fully sustainable life support system for all 40,000 UNA civilians on board as well as capabilities to grow food, extract water from space ice and more, with a mission to embark for Europa.
The UNA leaves Mars orbit during the attack on the RCA encountering little resistance upon retreat.
The UAC experiences light casualties leaving Mars orbit just days later as the RCA begins to recover and repair for an eventual mission to Europa. The RCA’s future is becoming quite bleak as setbacks have left them in the dust while the UNA and UAC head for Europa.
